Job title: Occupational Therapist

 

Location: Stanborough Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 609 St Albans Road, WD25 9JL.
 
Responsible to: Head of Clinical Care
   
Responsible for: Supporting children to develop their independence in aspects of daily living, such as self-feeding, dressing and participating in play.

 

Key relationships: CEO, Head of Family Service, Head of Clinical Care, Therapy team, Specialist Workers, Volunteers, Children/Families/Carers

 

Hours: Part time – Mondays AM & AM sessions (3.5 hours per session) based on Hertfordshire term times.
   
   

Enhanced DBS Clearance required 

 

 

Playskill is a Herts based charity supporting pre-school children with physical disabilities & delays and their families.

 

Job Purpose

This role is for a fully qualified HCPC registered Occupational therapist who is passionate about delivering high-quality care to children and their families. Supporting children to develop their independence in aspects of daily living, such as self-feeding, dressing and participating in play.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following core tasks:

  • Assess and coordinate children’s progress in fine motor, sensory and self help skills depending on each individual’s needs
  • Assess need of equipment provision where applicable and to promote independence and daily functioning of children.
  • Maximising a child’s potential through supportive therapy promoting independence and self-esteem.
  • Develop relationships with children and families, modelling skills and appropriate behaviour as well as keep appropriate records
  • Work as a team to ensure the best outcomes for children and their families, promote the respect, inclusion and acceptance of all children.
  • Detailed report writing; presenting clinical findings and setting out recommendations to address areas of identified need.
  • Deliver training, workshops and groups as required alongside other therapists and relevant staff.
  • Develop and maintain communication with according to individual needs, employing excellent communication skills for empathy, motivation and reassurance.
  • Work flexibly and cohesively with the group where every team member is valued for their skills and contributions.
  • Prepare, maintain, and use equipment/resources required to meet the sessions objectives and assist the children in their use.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times in line with GDPR guidelines.
  • Ensure all Playskill Health & Safety and Safeguarding guidelines are adhered to and attend mandatory training, which may fall outside of office hours.
  • Attend annual appraisal and termly support and development meetings where training and learning activities will be discussed.
  • Evaluate own performance through reflection and supervision, demonstrating own continuous learning and improvement.
  • Maintain and update own knowledge of service delivery and care provision.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection and safeguarding, health and security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

Skills/Experience Essential Desirable
Qualification/education Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy

 

HCPC registration

 

 RCOT member

 

Member of relevant CIG

Experience Experience of working with children and young people.

 

Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team

 

Evidence of continuing professional development

 

Experience of working with children with complex physical needs

 

Experience of working with specialist equipment

Knowledge and skills Understand the principles of the Occupational Therapy process with children and young people with disabilities

 

Knowledge of application of occupational therapy assessments

 

Ability to plan interventions in a collaborative way

 

Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues

 

Able to communicate effectively in written and verbal English language

 

Effective time management and organisational skills, prioritising and delegation skills

 

Flexible and responsive to changes in needs of the service

 

Competent IT skills

 

Able to identify with the Charity’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

 

Knowledge of manual handling legislation and risk assessment

 

Basic knowledge of specialist equipment

 

To have basic knowledge of sensory processing

 

Presentation skills

Other Ability to maintain confidentiality and understanding of sensitive nature of core work

 

Empathy and understanding of lived experience of parents of children with disabilities and how the impact on their day to day life
